- Zero Flame Spread & Low Smoke
MgO boards do not burn. In the event of a fire, they do not contribute fuel to the flames and, crucially, do not emit toxic smoke or “dripping” particulates, which are the primary causes of injury during building evacuations.
- Structural Integrity Under Heat
Unlike plywood or OSB, which lose structural capacity quickly when charred, MgO maintains its shape and load-bearing properties for a longer duration under high temperatures. This is vital for maintaining “compartmentation” in multi-story buildings.
- Resistance to “Sweating” (Sulfate vs. Chloride)
For 19mm flooring, it is recommended to use Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) based boards.
- Chloride-free: Prevents the “crying board” phenomenon where moisture leaches out and corrodes metal joists or fasteners.
- Stability: Sulfate boards offer better dimensional stability in changing humidity, ensuring the T&G joints stay tight.
